Today's reflection
Friends, St. Raymond of Peñafort was the third master of the Dominican order after Blessed Jordan of Saxony. He lived to be one-hundred years old! One of the things he encouraged was taking time for solitude where one can be quietly with one’s self and with God. Otherwise one can forget who they really are and who God really is.

Why do people pray to saints?
We believe that the saints are our senior sisters and brothers who faced the same challenges we do and now stand before the Throne of God. We ask the saints to pray with and for us – to join with us in praying for God’s help.

St. Jude, patron saint
of the impossible

St. Jude Thaddeus was one of the twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus Christ. Because he has the same name as the traitor, people were slow to ask his help. He didn’t mind being left in the shadows – and now is the special patron of all who feel left in the shadows. At our Shrine we ask him to help all in special need.

Popular Catholicism
Popular Catholicism is of interest more to those who do not understand how devotions such as our devotions to St. Jude could be considered seriously. There are many young people, but more people who are “middle aged”, who are looking at understanding the theological underpinnings and understanding of Catholicism practiced by “the people” (which is what “popular” means in this case). In the next couple of weeks, we will be gathering a list of resources to share.

Quotes from the Saints
A single plant, a blade of grass is enough to occupy all our efforts in contemplation of the One who produced it.
