Richard, O.P.
If I am about having "my Way" all the time I will never have deep, satisfying relationships. With God I must always say, "your way." With friends and people I am related to it is also important to frequently say, "OK, your way." The world won't collapse.
Richard, O.P.
In today's Gospel, John 17: 20-26, Jesus prays, "that all may be one as you, Father, are in me, and I am in you." Friends, each one of us has been given our life span to contribute to making this prayer of Jesus come true.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, with less mumbling going on in our heads we would discover a wonderful spaciousness within which we would apprehend more fully our own presence, the presence of God, and the presence of others.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, I was really surprised once when I read that most of the thoughts we have we have entertained a couple of hundred times before. I checked it out for myself and found it to be true. How dull! I think it would be better to have fewer thoughts but perhaps some new ones. The rest of the time we could just enjoy the peace and quiet.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, how can we be in communication with God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Probably by talking less to ourselves. How much of that we all do! We need to make a little quiet in our heads and then sense the presence of God that is always with us.
Richard, O.P.
In today's Gospel for the Seventh Sunday of Easter, John 17: 1-11. we are taught: "Eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and him whom you have sent, Jesus Christ." Notice that scriptures do not say eternal life is to know "about" Jesus and God. We are to really know them. To have an intimate relationship with them.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, today we remember the apostles Philip and James. They followed Jesus. Whatever our labor, it must be a way of following Jesus. If our occupation in not in harmony with the way of Jesus we must honestly examine whether this is work we ought to continue doing.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, I'm not sure if God gives each one of us a specific thing to do in our lives. He may leave this up to our free wills. I am sure about "how" God wants us to do whatever we do: With love, honesty, generosity, forbearance towards others and the desire to offer it all to Him.
Richard, O.P.
The Ascension. Friends, today we celebrate the Great Return when Christ goes back to his Father having shared the Father's presence with everyone he had met. Will each one of us return to our God having shared God's presence with all people every day of our lives?
Richard, O.P.
It is unfortunate that today we often underrate our experiences. We don't seem to have the time to share our stories around a fire or on our front porches on quiet summer evenings anymore. But God is in those stories of ours waiting to be released.
Richard, O.P.
My friends, what love, what forgiveness, what encouragement, what peace have you experienced? Savor it and share it.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, we can witness to what we believe and to what we have been taught. We can also witness to what we have experienced. That's when witnessing comes alive.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, when we love unconditionally we are never loving by ourselves. We have identified with God's Spirit living in our core and we are loving with Divine Love.
Richard, O.P.
Friends, can we wake up every morning and say to ourselves, "I am loved and my purpose today is to love."
Richard, O.P.
My friends, doesn't today's Gospel say it all? "This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you." John 15: 12-17. |
